Mayor Brenda Halloran has continually worked to better her community. After earning her diploma at Conestoga College, she began her career as a Registered Nurse. From there, she graduated from Waterloo's Conrad Grebel College with a certificate in conflict resolution. In December 2006, she became Mayor of the City of Waterloo.

Prior to assuming office, Mayor Halloran was the recipient of the Wilfrid Laurier University Woman of Resistance Award and was co-valedictorian of her Leadership Waterloo Region Class, as well as recieving the CCRA Award of Excellence. She has also been nominated for the KW Oktoberfest Women of the Year Award in the Community Service category. She has been featured in Chatelaine Magazine, Most Magazine, Top Notch 2008, and The Real Women Magazine.

As Mayor, Brenda Halloran has introduced a number of innovative initiatives to the community, including the formation of the Mayor's Student Advisory Council, as well as local forums to address challenging issues such as local health care and inclusion. Mayor Halloran has been a strong advocate for supportive housing in the Region, takes part in many environmental initiatives and most recently the Mayor has championed the Bracelet of Hope Campaign and joined their efforts to end HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Her belief in transformative and collaborative leadership is what makes her stand out as a leader in this community. She is very much a doer and has a gift for seeing the big picture and how to pull everyone together.
